Frequently Asked Questions - Donations

Each year, the Minnesota Valley Humane Society has to raise all the money needed to fund its programs and services.  About half the money is received through service fees from adoption, surrender, Canine U training, humane education, and retail merchandise sales.  The other half must be raised through donations from kind people who care about animals.  We send out direct mail solicitations, newsletters, have several special event fundraisers, and are always interested in new ways to raise money.  Most of our support comes from individuals, but we welcome involvement from the local business community.

We receive no funding from United Way, but donors through United Way giving programs can write in "Minnesota Valley Humane Society" and our address on the "donor choice" line.

We also can receive donations through other workplace giving programs, including Community Shares, Community Solutions Fund, or Combined Federal Campaign.

The Minnesota Valley Humane Society receives no funding from national, regional, or any other humane organization.   We also do not receive any sort of government funding.

Please give as generously as you can to the Minnesota Valley Humane Society.  Homeless animals are counting on you!

No. Donations given to national organizations do not trickle down to local animal shelters. There is no national organization which fundraises for local animal welfare organizations. The Minnesota Valley Humane Society, like more than 4,000 other animal shelters across the United States, is an independent, non-profit charity. Each year, MVHS must raise the money it needs to fund its own programs and services. Every donation given to the Minnesota Valley Humane Society helps animals and families right here in our local communities.

The Minnesota Valley Humane Society has been serving the greater south metro area since 1981.  We take in approximately 4000 animals each year and find them new, loving homes.  We also have many community outreach services, including:  Canine U training for dogs and puppies, behavior helpline, humane education programs for children and adults, and animal ambassadors who visit nursing homes, care facilities, community events, and businesses.   In addition, we support several area food shelves with pet food and supplies, maintain an on-line library of companion animal related information, share a listing of apartments that accept pets, and we try to help anyone who contacts us with their companion animal questions and concerns.  Each year, the Minnesota Valley Humane Society helps thousands of local families and their companion animals.

The Minnesota Valley Humane Society does not receive funding from any national, regional, or local humane organization.  We also do not receive any government funding.  Each year, we must raise all the money we need to fund our operations.  We appreciate all donations.
