Minnesota Valley Humane Society

The Minnesota Valley Humane Society was founded in 1981 by volunteers who fostered animals in their homes, while raising money for a shelter. By 1991, enough had been raised for the group to purchase the old Burnsville Police Department building (enough for downpayment and start-up expenses, anyway!). Since then we have been working hard to improve the lives of animals and people in our community.

Since 1991, we have found homes for over 40,000 animals. We have no time limits for animals awaiting adoption. It is our policy to shelter and place as many healthy non-aggressive animals as we have space to care for. We are proud to have one of the highest adoption rates in the country!

We believe education is the answer. We offer free Pet Parent classes for new and struggling pet parent as well as our innovative Canine U Dog Obedience Training.
