Capital Campaign Update

            FAITHFUL FRIENDSKeeping the Promise

The Campaign for the Minnesota Valley Humane Society

The love we share with our pets is deep and powerful.  They become our constant companions, our confidants and often our healers.  They ask so little of us.  Yet, in a compassionate community it is our wish and our responsibility to care for and protect them.  This is our promise.

A happy ending is in sight…

  • The Minnesota Valley Humane Society (MVHS)—celebrating its 29th year—has sold its present
  • Burnsville site and will upgrade to an existing building in Eagan.
  •  The new location—with more space (18,000 sq. ft.) and has the capability to become environmentally sustainable.
  • The site—951 Apollo Road—will be modified as a home for companion animals that allows us  to relocate by January of 2011.

This is a financially prudent undertaking in light of a difficult economy.  It has allowed us to dramatically reduce our early campaign goal from $7 million to $2.1 million.  This is good news, as we are now able to continue our dream of helping animals that we serve at less than a third of the price of building a new facility.

This need is present and urgent…

  • The current building is over 40 years old and is deteriorating rapidly.
  • The size (about 10,000 sq. ft.) and layout of the building are inadequate to house and support the growing number of surrendered and abandoned animals.
  • Recent professional assessment indicated that remodeling or adding-on to the building is not feasible due to inherent structural and mechanical faults.

Our new capital goal is $2.1 million.  We have already received more than $250,000 in new gifts as we begin this innovative phase of the campaign.

Please help us move forward with a generous gift that will make a real difference in the lives of our companion animals. We welcome all donations.

MVHS has a 60% shelter adoption rate, one of the highest in the nation…

  • In 2009 MVHS received 3,322 surrendered and abandoned animals and facilitated over 1,927 adoptions.
  • 100% of our healthy, adoptable animals find homes.  MVHS does not euthanize for space.

Our valuable and highly regarded services reach far and deep into the surrounding area…

MVHS serves the public and animals across a wide geographical area.  From a location in the growing South metro, we uniquely serve the communities of Apple Valley, Bloomington, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington,

Lakeville, Prior Lake, Richfield, Rosemount, Savage, Shakopee, South Minneapolis, West Metro and areas in between from Hastings to Northfield:

  • Public outreach and education
  • Animal surrender and adoption
  • Therapeutic pet visit to the elderly
  • Sought after resource across the entire Twin City metro —due to our reputation.

Thank you for your consideration and your generosity…
